“NJDEP NJ Tree Recovery Campaign Provides Free Tree Seedlings at the ETPS John Marshall Elementary School located at 15 Cornell Street, Edison, NJ 08817 on Sunday, May 12, 2019.”

Edison, NJ – Free tree seedlings will be available to Edison/Greater Edisonresidents in the month of May2019as part of the NJDEP NJ Tree Recovery Campaign. This program helps communities throughout New Jersey replace trees damaged or destroyed by Superstorm Sandy.

From 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Sunday,May12, 2019,the public-at-large shall be able to obtain free tree seedlings at theETPS John Marshall Elementary School located at 15 Cornell Street, Edison, NJ 08817.

The live tree seedlings shall be available on a first-come/first-served basis, along with instructions as totheir applicable storage, care and planting. The guides help recipients choose the right place on a property to plant a tree while keeping in mind the tree’s full-grown size in the future. Receivers of the tree seedlings should plant the live seedlings within two days after pick-up in order to prevent the roots from drying out.

The goal of the Tree Recovery Campaign is to distribute over 500,000 tree seedlings to New Jersey residents over the course of five years. It is a joint effort between the Township of Edison, New Jersey Forest Service, New Jersey Soil Conservation Districts, Sustainable Jersey, Arbor Day Foundation, BJ’s Wholesale Club, Canon, and FedEx.

When properly planted and maintained, trees can be viable, green assets to a community. They improve the visual appeal of a neighborhood or business district, increase property values, reduce home cooling costs, remove air pollutants, and provide wildlife habitat, among many other benefits.

Edison is a certified Tree City, as well as an established 10-Year Bronze Level Sustainable Jersey Community.  The tree saplings shall be distributed to the public by volunteers affiliated with the Edison Sustainable Jersey Green Team.

For a list of all distribution locations across the state, visit www.forestry.nj.gov or www.facebook.com/newjerseyforests.
