U.S. Rep. Rush Holt interviews with Fang Wong, the national commander of the American Legion, as part of the Library of Congress’s ongoing Veterans History Project.

Fang A. Wong of East Brunswick, New Jersey, is the national commander, chief executive officer, and official spokesman of The American Legion, a patriotic veterans organization that currently has about 2.4 million members in 14,000 posts worldwide. Born in Canton, China, Wong immigrated to the United States as a 12-year-old in 1960. Wong volunteered for the U.S. Army in 1969, served 25 months in Vietnam, and retired from the Army as a chief warrant officer in 1989. He was elected as The American Legion’s national commander on September 1, 2011.
